ApolloCon 2008: Now It Can Be Told

Now that I see the website has been updated, I'm very excited to announce that I'll be the Editor Guest of Honor at ApolloCon 2008. Alan Steele is the Author GoH, Anne K. G. Murphy is the Fan GoH, and the Artist and Filk GoH's are TBD. Meanwhile, this is my first GoH, so I'm uber-psyched.

  1. Yay! Congratulations. Hope you have a wonderful time.

And I'm also very happy for Anne. She did a fabulous job proofreading Emerald City, she's done a bunch of other great fan work, and she thoroughly deserves this.

  2. Sweet! Congrats.

If I'm still in Houston then, I'll be buying--first round's on me.

  4. Very cool. I'd love to catch that con, if my schedule allowed it.

Congrats on GOH! And it's cool to see Allen Steele there too! :)

  5. Congrats!

Apollo is of the cons I keep toying with going to next year.

  9. Well...I'm not infamous as much as I am the subject of several restraining orders. But you can judge for yourself. :)

Seriously, I went to ApolloCon earlier this yea - my first con, believe it or not - and it was lots of fun.

    Paul - many thanks.

  11. Yeah, I was never much into the con scene when I was younger. My energies were spent down other avenues. When the local ApolloCon rolled around a couple of months ago, I figured it was time to finally give it a go. And I had good reason: guests including Chris Roberson and David G. Hartwell (Editor GoH). Hartwell fascinated me with many great "insider" stories. I'll be expecting more of the same next year! :)

  12. I went to my first con in the very early 90s, found it strange and terrible and didn't stay. I returned 5 years later to media cons, sent by the magazines I worked for, and found them impersonal. So when I hit literary cons in 2000, I was blown away by the access to creatives. I could live there year round now, and don't have much patience for people who bitch about them.

  13. Then you'll like ApolloCon, if next year is like this year. It's not huge, so there's a very personal feel, cozy-like. And there was plenty of literary programming. If anything, there was more than I could attend at once.

  14. Sounds like it. I really enjoyed the Campbell Conference last year, for the chance to spend a week with the same dozen or so people, rather than five minutes each with several hundred.

  15. Lou, we look forward to seeing you here in Houston. And JohnD does have several restraining orders against him...and he's an enjoyable con buddy!
