PodMan & Lou Dog
The new, and most impressive Adventures in SciFi Publishing, has uploaded its fifth podcast, an interview with Yours Truly. I won't get to listen to it until tomorrow, so I have no idea how I come off. The interview was conducted by the wonderful Shaun Farrell during the World Fantasy Convention weekend, who was quite the professional, but I was practising my new "diet" at WFC, which consists of basically not eating and drinking only copious amounts of cappuccino. I suspect that listeners will get a pretty high words per minute rate. Meanwhile, I am honored to be in such illustrious company as Ray Bradbury, Paul Levinson, R. A. Salvatore, Jamie Levine, Sam Enthoven, and L. E. Modesitt Jr. Not bad at all for a brand new site either. Hence my "most impressive."

I enjoyed listening to your sibilant tones on my way into London today. I felt that I should have a pint in my hand. I love that there's a podcast that begins 'hey there, publishing fans', and doesn't bleep what can only be described as a stream of profanity. I now want everyone I only see at US conventions to do one of these, so I can have a vicarious con bar experience again.

Was it that bad? I've only just started listening and was sort of taken back slash bemused by the parental warning.
No, Lou, the language was NOT that bad! But that's just my opinion. I had to consider potential listeners who might be surprised by it, since all of my previous episodes have a "clean" rating. I'm not much on PC culture. I think people should say what they feel and not apologize for it. Sadly, not everyone in the world agrees with that. I love the comment, Paul! Publishing fans rock on!

Okay, I've listened to the interview myself now. I don't think there's more than six or seven profane words scattered throughout 35 minutes. If you had a transcript of the interview there would be hundreds of innoculous words between each swear word, but as I am talking so fast, they appear closer together than they actually are. See, my profanity is not streamed; it's merely grouped closely in time but not in space.

I still don't know what EOS comments this refers to. I don't recall mentioning Eos at all. Though I said nice things about Night Shade in general and Scott Lynch's new Bantam book in particular.

Ah, but that was said in context of praising them for establishing a clear identity that has lead to commercial success. Plenty of readers don't *ignore* them!
I thought you were refuring to the EOS 'design', anti -illustration covers. Now I have to skim the whole thing. If you can skim a podcast...
Oh, I did mention the trend toward photoshopped / designed covers, but didn't reference a particular publisher.
Maybe it's the conversations on cover art ( and one from EOS refuring to that time ) that made my mind jump there - Jeff
