I was told that my writing needed more "steam" to sell. I'd like to think that's not the case when the story and emotional connection are strong enough for the reader to feel. The rest is a kind of self-indulgence.
The quality of Mad Men's content is always compelling. It's TV I look forward to. I sure miss Peggy and the many challenges she offered Don. In this scene I loved how she turned a sex-sells angle on it's head and threw "What did you bring me daddy?" at Don and stoked his guilt about his children.

The key question is not whether sex does or doesn't sell but what is being sold, what is being communicated.
