I still say I'll really know I'm in the future when I can just tell it what to do...

And I'm still waiting for those holographic projection glasses that make it look like the book is hovering in mid air before me. Or the you tube video, or whatever...

I don't think that's too far off.

Weird thing is I was just this last week having a discussion on a forum about e-books, and postulating they would truly take off when you don't need a seperate reader but could get them on your phone, and that the improving screens and efforts to get web pages onto phones would make that happen soon. I am already out of date, as always.

Incidentally, I tried a pair of those glasses around this time last year. SF author Rob Grant is a gadget freak and had a pair hooked up to a video i-pod. They're a pretty strange experience. Impressive, though.

eReader is apparently working on a version for the Blackberry. Also, if Google's Android software succeeds in bringing Web 2.0 to phones, then I imagine this, or something like it, or a variety of somethings, will make every phone as comfortable for reading. So yeah, it's happening fast.

Re: glasses - I imagined they were already here, and whether they got marketed or not was all we were waiting for!

I bought a Sony Reader earlier this year and feel like I probably wasted money on it. As much as I like it, I do prefer a backlit device. Plus, like Joe stated, its nice having 1 device that can do multiple things. 2 months after buying the Reader, i bought an iPod Touch and think it will quickly replace the Reader as my e-reading device.

I thought I heard rumors of Mobipocket working on an iPhone version, too. That would definitely kill my need for the Reader.

I asked this on the SFF World Forum, but will ask here. Any chance we see the Joe A books in ebook format? I own them already in trade pb, but would rebuy them in ebook form (i love the series..just reviewed the first 2 on my blog).

There are some e-related things in the works, and I don't think we're more than a few months out from announcing some cool developments. However, we license the Abercrombie books from Gollancz directly, and I don't believe that ebook rights are part of our agreement, so the onus for that one isn't on us.
