It’s a great gimmick, but not a game changer. In order to be a game changer, huge numbers of people would have to be able to replicate it or create their own customized versions. Unfortunately, while the tools required to create such elaborate animations are getting cheaper (and some are even free), the good ones are still relatively expensive. Also, and perhaps more importantly, the skill required to create quality animation is significant, not to mention creating a compelling interactive experience. However, this is just a continuation to what people were saying when the iPad first came out. I wrote about this on one of my blogs, AddictedtoSocialMedia.com. If you’re interested, the post is called, "The iPad Will Save Publishers… NOT!” You can read it here http://bit.ly/dHzvDJ I’d love to get your thoughts on it.

My thoughts too. High end expensive to produce app. We will see more of this, but at the high end, not omniversal. And books remain an immersive experience. I bought the app and played on it, and I kept thinking the narrative was getting in the way of the graphics (was pretty cool though). I'll try to check otu the article.

Gimmick. It doesn't engross me in the story to figure out where some programmer inserted activation points into some admittedly cool-looking graphics. That's no longer a reading-type experience, that's wandering into I Spy territory.

Ha. Like how you phrased that John.
